REMEMBERING JAMES A. MOORE
James A. Moore
(1951- 2008)
Our friend James will be greatly missed as we continue to nurture and enjoy the strong bond of friendship and camaraderie through our shared love of golf. Because of James, who assumed a leadership role in coordinating the annual Hackers Unlimited tournament, we are inspired to continue what began many years ago. James was very outgoing and made every golfer in our tournament feel important.
1983, August 13th ,
Chicago was busy as a bee,
but quite comfortable under a tree,
The Bud Billiken Parade had started,
with the Mayor and all the rest,
and the Beach boys were singing
at the Sixth Chicago Fest.
The White Sox and Baltimore
were playing at Comiskey Park
while the Bears and Cubs were out of town
trying to set their mark.
Yes it was a nice Saturday
to be outdoors doing what you do best,
like playing golf
and putting your game to the ultimate test
Out at Jackson Park Golf Course
a threesome gathered at the eighth hole tee
Each golfer dreaming of getting down
one hole, and not the par that’s three,
Mark Freeman and Roger Smith,
hit their tee shots, 140 yards to the green,
then watched James Moore Finch,
address his ball, while looking very mean.
His back swing was perfect,
his down swing was firm,
with a great follow through,
James hit his ball straight at the flag
High and long and true
the ball bounced on to the green
and rolled right into the cup with the flag,
and then James looked at Mark and Roger
and began to brag and brag.
As strange as it may seem
because they knew that a hole-in-one
was in every golfers dream
Congratulations James Moore Finch
Hitch your golf game to a star
Because with shots like that
Who cares what they call par!
